Good posture can be successfully acquired only when the entire mechanism of the body is under perfect control. Graceful carriage follows as a matter of course. Just as a good, smooth-running automobile engine is the result of proper parts correctly assembled so that it operates with a minimum consumption of gasoline and oil and with comparatively little wear, so too is the proper functioning of your own body the direct result of the assembled Contrology exercises.

ABOUT SR

Classical Pilates AND MELT METHOD

Here at Studio Reset, a classical Portland Pilates studio, the philosophy is challenge without stress.  Following the Pilates principals of concentration, centering, control, breath and flow is a fun and challenging workout.  I encourage you to be curious, to be open, and to listen to your body.  At Studio Reset, I encourage you to pay attention to the process rather than to the results.  I've found over many years of teaching that if the process is correct, the results will follow effortlessly.  The key to developing strength and depth in a workout is the setup.  I use the MELT Method to align and relax the body — to reset it to its ideal posture — so that you get the most out of your dynamic classical Pilates class!

Workout with a romana teacher

Lucero Barry is the owner and primary teacher at Studio Reset in the NW district of Portland.  She has taught extensively throughout the country, including New York, Cambridge, and San Francisco.  She is excited by the opportunity to share her expertise with the Portland community.

Lucero teaches both the classical Pilates Method of exercise and the MELT Method of self-care.  In 2000, Lucero completed a rigorous certification program with Romana Kryzanowska, a pupil of Joseph Pilates himself, and with master-teacher Bob Liekens.  Since 2012, Lucero has become an advanced level MELT Method instructor by Sue Hitzmann, the Method's creator.

Lucero received a B.F.A. in dance from the Boston Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, with an emphasis on choreography and teaching.  After graduation, she moved to New York City where she spent eight years studying and teaching dance. She taught dance at The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Floating Hospital, and Homes for The Homeless, among other places.  In 1989, to support her dancing career, she began taking classes in the Pilates Method with renown teachers such as Cary Regan and Bob Liekens and Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Santo among others.  Throughout the years she took many workshops with Jean-Claude West, a leading kinesiologist who shifted a paradigm by combining human bio-mechanics with the Pilates Method.  She also has taken many Pilates workshops in New York, San Francisco, and Seattle.  Continuing Ed is important to keep this work exciting and inspiring.  As cross-training, Lucero has run marathons and practices yoga.  She just finished a two-year mindfulness program run by Spirit Rock Meditation Center.  Long meditation retreats heal her heart. All of these practices influence her teaching.
